Using only 3 ingredients, we couldn’t help but wonder, will this be enough to affect your testosterone levels?

Pros and Cons of

The good thing about ZMA Pro is that it’s a really simple product to take. It’s also cheap, costing around $13 for a 1-month supply.

But there are also some concerns regarding this supplement. It’s missing some key ingredients for improving testosterone and sleep. Including melatonin vitamin D3, and D-Aspartic Acid. Without these, it’s hard to tell how effective ZMA Pro will be.

It also uses a high dose of zinc, which is reported to cause negative side effects in users.

It’s best if you take it on an empty stomach as its effects will kick in faster.

Lastly, make sure to avoid taking ZMA Pro with anything that contains dairy or calcium – that’s according to the label.

Is this an optimal dosage?

While taking a T-booster only once per day (or night) might sound simple, it’s actually not the best way to take it.

In order to keep your testosterone elevated, you need to give your body a constant supply of necessary ingredients. If you only take 1 capsule per day, guess how long its effects are going to last? Not that long.

For this reason, you want a testosterone booster that contains at least 3 daily servings. This way you’ll reap constant and full benefits from its ingredients.

Still, this doesn’t make ZMA Pro a complete write off. It will still give you its benefits related to sleep and muscle recovery, but don’t expect miracles in terms of testosterone!

ZMA Pro contains only 3 ingredients. They are Vitamin B6, Magnesium, and Zinc.

Okay, it makes sense for a ZMA product to contain this few ingredients. However, if you want to boost testosterone, you need other ingredients too. Such as Vitamin D3, and D-Aspartic Acid.

In regards to sleep, this a great ingredient choice. It contains magnesium which makes your muscles and nerves more relaxed, and it also comes with a hefty dose of zinc which not only regulates testosterone, but also helps with recovery during sleep.

Lastly, we have vitamin B6 which is great if you’re deficient in it. If you aren’t, then it won’t have that much of an impact.

However, there is one key ingredient missing in ZMA Pro – melatonin. I don’t know what to make of Universal Nutrition’s decision to leave out melatonin, but it’s definitely not a smart move!

Melatonin is one of the most powerful natural ingredients for improving sleep quality. Without it, magnesium and zinc can’t really do that much on their own.

Ingredient Breakdown

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine HCL) – It’s important for numerous bodily functions. Most importantly, it helps strengthen your immune system and also improves cognitive function.

Zinc (Aspartate and L-Monomethionine) – Powerful testosterone regulator. A deficiency in zinc is shown to cause low testosterone levels. You lose zinc through sweat. With 200% of RDA for zinc, ZMA Pro will be sure to deliver you its full benefits.

Magnesium (Aspartate) – Important for heart, muscle, and nerve functioning. It will make you feel more relaxed and at ease when you go to bed.

Caution should be taken with high doses of zinc.

Anything over 20mg of zinc daily can cause adverse side effects, such as insomnia, vomiting, and extreme stomach pains. ZMA Pro contains an aggressive dose of zinc, 30 mg, which is enough to cause problems in sensitive people.

Side effects

Due to its high dose of zinc, ZMA Pro is reported to cause;

  • Restlessness
  • Insomnia
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea

If you’re not sure about your zinc tolerance, I suggest starting with a low dose of ZMA Pro. Perhaps 1 or 2 capsules per day, instead of 3.

Start with a low dose and see how you respond from there. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!

    1. Hi Arm, it’s better to take three spread out throughout the day, that way your body will better use the ingredients. As for before or after the gym, it won’t make too much difference.
